Minutes of the meeting of the committee of the 1990 Pétanque League held at the Queen Victoria, Syston on Thursday 19th September 2024.

Present were: Chairman Phil Selvidge; Secretary Iain Coates; Competitions Secretary Brian Macdonald; Vice Chairman Clive Dawkes.

The meeting opened at 12:40pm.

1. Apologies had been received from the Treasurer, Steve Finlay, and Richard Garner.

2. The minutes of the last committee meeting were approved and signed by the Chairman.

3. Matters arising.

3.1. We have 83 members on Facebook. PS will ask for a volunteer to oversee the updating of Facebook at the AGM.

3.2. The spreading out of cup rounds through the season was discussed, and deferred to a subsequent meeting as the input of the Fixtures Secretary was essential.

4. It was agreed that the 1990 League was not opposed to Gavin’s proposal for some kind of inter-region competition, but that more details would be required before it could be put to the membership. CD will talk to GN.

5. It was agreed to ask teams at the AGM whether captains’ contact numbers should be printed in the handbook. Also to ask the meeting if all byes in the cup should be in the first round, or a subsequent round as at present. Was the present positioning of the Free Week suitable?

What could be done about boules leaving the piste, then returning to disturb other boules. The requirement to mark all boules was considered unnecessary. There is already mention of this in the Abbreviated Rules, but should something be written into the main rules? Similarly do we need a rule to cover the consequences of a player throwing without having both feet inside the circle?

PS had been asked if we would run a winter league by John Edmonson. PS will ask JE to raise this at the AGM.

Ratification of the change to rule 7.2 is required.

6. Offices up for election this year will be Fixtures Secretary and Vice Chairman.

7. The date of the next meeting is to be confirmed.

8. AOB

Gavin Naylor is recruiting for East Midlands. It was agreed that it was up to Central to reciprocate if they wished.

CD asked about penalties for cancelling a match, particularly when it had a detrimental effect on another team’s chances of promotion or relegation. It was agreed to discuss this at a future meeting with the Fixtures Secretary.

Captains to be instructed to delete all players and re-enter only those currently playing before the start of next season.

Meeting closed at 14:20
